I'm in debt with my supplier - can I still switch?
There are no hard and fast rules for standard credit meter customers when switching in debit – but there shouldn’t be any problems provided you’ve not been in debt for over a month. If you are, you may need to repay the debt first before switching.
You’ll need to pay any money you owe that’s less than a month old when you get your final bill from your old supplier - usually sent around six weeks after you switch, so bear this in mind if it'll cause cashflow issues.
If you're on a key/card meter, you must be allowed to switch, provided your debt is below £500.
