What happens if my energy company goes bust?
Most importantly, you won't lose your supply. Regulator Ofgem will appoint a new supplier to take over, and you'll usually be moved across to a standard tariff. You should then be able to switch away without exit fees if the price isn't good enough, so make sure you do a comparison.
If you're in credit, that's protected too – the provider that takes over from your old supplier will pay this back.
